VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Shipwrecked is the 2019 theme of Vacation Bible School being held from July 21 through 25 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Saxonburg. The VBS program will feature games, crafts, Bible storytelling, snacks and a family picnic on the last day. It runs from 6 to 8 pm Sunday through Wednesday. VBS will close on that Thursday with a family picnic, beginning at 5 pm, at a pavilion at Sebco Pool along Hannahstown Road. Except for the last day, VBS will be held at Centennial Hall directly behind the church at 310 W. Main Street. The five-day event is free and open to children from ages three to those entering the sixth grade this fall. LEGENDS AT THE LIBRARY – Thursday, August 1 at 6PM – Local author Mary Calligan will present a book talk on her book, Germany: A Nation of Conflict and Conquest, at the next event at the Ford City Library. Her book examines the history of Germany before and after the World Wars. Copies of the book will be available for $25, with a free signing by the author. FESTIVAL IDOL – The Fort Armstrong Folk Festival is announcing their annual Festival Idol competition this year will take place on Saturday August 3, 2019 on the Main Stage of the festival from 4 to 7 PM. FREE BIKE RODEO AND GIVE-A-WAY – The Kittanning Elks and Kittanning Police Department are partnering to bring the annual bicycle safety rodeo course. It will be held on Friday, August 9 at Kittanning Riverfront Park. Registration at 6:30 PM, Rodeo at 7PM, then the Incredibles 2 Movie in the Park at dusk. Open to children ages 2-14. Every child has a chance to win one of the 26 bikes with helmets, safety flags, and lights. Must register, complete safety instructions, safety course, and must be present at time of drawing to win.
