GRIEF RECOVERY – Christ Prince of Peace Parish from October 22 through December 10 from 6-8 PM on Monday evenings. The program is an internationally recognized 7-week step-by-step process for recovery from grief that can return a person to a capacity for happiness. PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP will meet at the RGS YMCA in Kittanning on Thursday, October 18 from 1-2:30 PM. The presenter, Brad Pavlina, has been a physical therapist for 18 years. He will focus particularly on therapy techniques used to improve balance and ways to break freezes. He will also explain what is necessary to qualify for in-home therapies (physical, occupational, and speech/language). All Parkinson’s patients, care partners, friends, and family are welcome to attend. No pre-registration is required. DIY THURSDAY – Ford City Library will host a do-it-yourself night of pumpkin decorating, painting, and crafting on October 18 at 5:30 PM at 1136 Fourth Avenue. FALL FESTIVAL – at United Rockville Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 20 from 11AM-6PM. Menu includes soups (wedding, ham and bean, vegetable), hamburgers in sauce, hot dogs, grilled cheese, turkey plate lunches, pies, ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes, and banana splits. FALL FESTIVAL  at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ on Saturday, October 20 from 9AM to 2PM at the church at 333 North McKean Street, Kittanning. The menu will include chili and cornbread muffins, hot dogs, chili cheese dogs, nachos and cheese, soft pretzels, and assorted beverages. There will also be home-baked bake goods for sale. New this year will be a live DJ. Weather permitting, outdoor dining will be available. Additionally, a flea market will be held in the church basement. Vendors are needed. LUCKY TURKEY SHOTGUN SHOOT – Sunday, October 21 from 1-3PM at Kelly Station Sportsmen Club (KSSC). Dinner or Pizza certificates will be offered during each round.  Food and drink will be available.  Approximately 10 rounds are provided with a special shot at the end. KSSC is located at 657 Logansport Road, Ford City.  Memberships can also be paid for the 2019 year.  The last shotgun shoot will be held Sunday, November 18, with winners receiving turkeys.

AMATEUR RADIO FCC TEST – The Fort Armstrong Wireless Association will be holding is quarterly amateur radio testing session on Saturday, October 20 at 2PM at the Armstrong County Emergency Operation Center at 131 Armsdale Road in Rayburn Township. Those interested in testing to receive their FCC amateur radio license or to upgrade an existing license are welcome to attend. The fee to take the test is $15 payable by cash or check. Please bring a photo ID and a copy of your current FCC license if you’re looking to upgrade.

FAMILY NIGHT CELEBRATION – Monday, October 22, from 4:30 until 7PM at the Lenape Vo-Tech Gymnasium. The event will have free entertainment, crafts, games, and refreshments for children, teens, and families. All activities are free. The event is held in conjunction with Community Awareness Day, a collaborative initiative to educate all segments of the community to the importance of being non-violent, substance-free, and respectful members of society.

FORD CITY HALLOWEEN PARADE – The Ford City Halloween Committee has announced that the the Annual Ford City Halloween Parade will take place on October 25th at 7:00 PM. The parade will be lead by the Armstrong Junior High Band under the direction of Rob Reams. All marchers wearing a costume will receive a prize and be eligible to win additional prizes based on originality and creativity. Categories for prizes include: Floats, Large Groups (4 or more), Small Groups (2 or 3), Individuals, Best of Band, and Grand Prize. Prize money for this year’s parade totals $1,200. Anyone wishing to participate, should gather at the Ford City Borough Building before 7:00. The parade will go on rain or shine.

“NICK THE GREEK” will be the special speaker at the 11AM morning worship service on Sunday, November 25th at Family-Life Church, Kittanning. During his gang days, his father put a hit out on his life. His life changed while he was in jail. He is the author of a book about his life that has been translated into many different languages. Everyone is welcome to attend the worship service.
