Ford City Councilman Gene Banks is leading an effort with County officials to try and motivate businesses to ‘set-up shop’ within the Borough.

Banks met with Armstrong County Commissioner Chair Dave Battaglia, Marketing and County Enhancement Director Allison Ball and County Department of Economic Development Manager Justin Nolder to let them know Ford City is on-board.

“I hope to spearhead a campaign with some of our officials to really take hold of this – that’s what its going to take to save this County,” Banks said.

Banks also did not hesitate to say Borough officials might have to rethink zoning lines to stimulate future success.

“We might have to revisit this whole area in order to coincide with what this County is wanting to do – and we’re willing to do this. It’s time for change,” Banks said. “We have to work together if we want to survive.”

Battaglia said a future meeting with the other County Commissioners might be planned in regards to Ford City’s outlook.

“We want them to make sure we have a strong, strong commitment to them and hear what they have to say,” Battaglia said. “We’re looking forward to helping them and working with Ford City.”

Of the nine Ford City Borough sub-committees Banks is a part of, the Planning Commission is one of them.

Banks also met with some of his fellow Council members and they are also reportedly eager to hear plans from County officials and/or residents. Information would also be shared with neighboring municipalities.

“I believe the six (Council members) of us – if we put our efforts toward this – can make something happen here.”

Banks hopes to have a town meeting at the end of the month regarding the initiative. He is to announce more information at tonight’s Council meeting. The meeting begins at 6PM at the Ford City Library.
