OBIT: Katherine L. “Kay” Shoemaker (Ford City)

Kay Shoemaker
Katherine L. “Kay” Shoemaker, 75, of Ford City, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at her residence.
She was born on January 5, 1937 in Boggs Township, the daughter of Nathan B. and Cora Mae (Lockhart) Crissman.
Kay was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Dayton High School in 1955. She devoted herself to caring for her family and loved being a wife and mother. Kay also worked for the CU Club as a counter clerk. Cooking on the campfire brought Kay great joy, as did reading and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kay was active in the community and belonged to a number of local card clubs, the Thursday Morning Doughnut League and Silver Sneakers at the Armstrong County YMCA. She was happiest when spending time with her family, and they will always remember her loving and caring spirit.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Robert (Beth) Shoemaker of Ford City and Nathan (Pam) Shoemaker of Kittanning; two daughters: Linda Contrael of Charlotte, NC and Connie Shoemaker of Ford City; eight grandchildren: Charles and Thomas Contrael, Brian and Michael Wolfe, Courtney and Anna Shoemaker, and Timothy and Carrie Shoemaker; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Larry Crissman and Dan Crissman, both of Kittanning; and sister, Betty McCaslin, of Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 24 years, Charles R. Shoemaker, who died in 1979; parents; and brother, Fred Crissman.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Bauer Funeral Home in Kittanning, where services will also be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11AM. The Rev. John W. Snyder will officiate.
