OBIT: Katherine L. “Kay” Shoemaker (Ford City)

Kay Shoemaker

Katherine L. “Kay” Shoemaker, 75, of Ford City, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at her residence.

She was born on January 5, 1937 in Boggs Township, the daughter of Nathan B. and Cora Mae (Lockhart) Crissman.

Kay was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Dayton High School in 1955. She devoted herself to caring for her family and loved being a wife and mother. Kay also worked for the CU Club as a counter clerk. Cooking on the campfire brought Kay great joy, as did reading and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kay was active in the community and belonged to a number of local card clubs, the Thursday Morning Doughnut League and Silver Sneakers at the Armstrong County YMCA. She was happiest when spending time with her family, and they will always remember her loving and caring spirit.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Robert (Beth) Shoemaker of Ford City and Nathan (Pam) Shoemaker of Kittanning; two daughters: Linda Contrael of Charlotte, NC and Connie Shoemaker of Ford City; eight grandchildren: Charles and Thomas Contrael, Brian and Michael Wolfe, Courtney and Anna Shoemaker, and Timothy and Carrie Shoemaker; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Larry Crissman and Dan Crissman, both of Kittanning; and sister, Betty McCaslin, of Worthington.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 24 years, Charles R. Shoemaker, who died in 1979; parents; and brother, Fred Crissman.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Bauer Funeral Home in Kittanning, where services will also be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11AM. The Rev. John W. Snyder will officiate.

Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.

OBIT: Olga C. Marshall (South Mahoning Township)

Olga C. Marshall, 92, of 8002 Route 85 HWY N, Beyer, Pa. (S. Mahoning Twp.) went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2012.  She was living in her home at the time of death. 

She was born to John & Ann (Oceal) Reken on September 21, 1919, on her family’s farm in the Beyer area.

Olga was an active member of St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Yatesboro.  She enjoyed traveling when she was younger and loved spending time with her large family.  One of her most cherished pleasures was growing many varieties of beautiful flowers.  She had a strong trust in God throughout her life and was known for her generosity.  She was an excellent baker and willingly made and donated baked good to many community organizations.  She was loved and respected by many and will be missed by her family and friends.

Olga is survived by her four children:  Thomas (Mariellen) Marshall of Sarasota FL, G. Ronald (Marian) Marshall of Indiana, Patricia A. Marshall of Indiana and Gene (Cindy) Marshall of Beyer; 10 grandchildren:  Tristan, Colin (Crystal) and Shea Marshall, Rebecca (Chip) Dietz, Melissa (Shannon) Jacobs, Natalie (Richard) Greer, Stephanie (Joshua) Shipley, Jared (Sara) Kammerer, Gregory and Jeffrey (Jamie) Marshall; 17 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by one brother Andy Reken; three sisters: Pauline Renosky, Helen (Edward) Petrosky, Frances (James) Fye and sister-in-law, Helen Reken; and honorary family members Claudia & Bill Lorenzo.

The family is thankful for the special help given by Claudia Lorenzo, Heather Clouser, Kim Frech, Dee Weaver and Ellen Stewart.

Olga was predeceased by her beloved husband, J. Dale Marshall on November 12, 1979; her parents; three brothers: Joseph, John and Michael Reken; and three sisters: Mary Grindle, Magaret Mayer and Ann Petuc.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s R C Church in Yatesboro, VNA Family Hospice, 850 Hospital Road, Indiana, PA or Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Friends will be received from 5-8PM Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Carson/ Boyer Funeral Home in Rural Valley.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Saturday, February 4, 2012at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Yatesboro, with Father Daniel Blout Officiating.  Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.  

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in  Indiana.
