Feel like that cold’s just been hanging around way too long? It could be hanging on because you’re dehydrated. Constant nose-blowing removes a surprising amount of moisture……Creating thicker nasal mucus, which is harder for our body to get rid of. Dehydration also slows the distribution of nutrients in our body. That’s according to pulmonary specialist, Dr. Joseph C. Koval. So, get plenty of water, 100% juice, or tea.
Hand sanitizer or good old fashioned hand washing? From Dr. Oz: People often use hand sanitizer because it seems like a quick and convenient way to get rid of germs, right? And we’ve all seen the claims of “Kills 99% of germs”, right? But as it turns out, hand sanitizer is not the best option for fighting off viruses! Although many claim to kill almost all germs, there are certain germs that are not killed by hand sanitizers. For example, hand washing is the only way to get rid of germs such as norovirus, which can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea. If you only have hand sanitizer available to you, be sure to pay attention to the alcohol content. Hand sanitizer must be at least 60% alcohol to be effective. Just remember that no matter how much alcohol is in your sanitizer, it won’t kill the same germs as handwashing. And in this season of Holiday shopping at the malls, and work parties- your friends will be appreciative for this reminder from The John Tesh Radio Show to wash their hands frequently (maybe to the tune of Jingle Bells for length!!)
