Parents were informed after an August 5 board meeting that Evangel Heights Christian Academy in Sarver was closing its doors and would not reopen this fall.
According to church officials, the school has struggled for the past several years. It was only going to have an enrollment of 122 this school year – far less than the once high enrollment of nearly 250 students.
The school has been open since 1990 and has served under the direction of Evangel Heights Assembly of God church.
The daycare continues to be full, sources say, and the school will continue to offer a Kindergarten program as an extension of the daycare facility.
The school served students from several surrounding school districts, including the Armstrong School District. Currently, those parents have Christian school options in Apollo at Orchard Hills Christian Academy or Divine Redeemer in Ford City.
