Leechburg Man Killed in Friday Morning Motorcycle Accident

Ronald M. Mego, 55, of Leechburg was fatally injured when the 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle he was operating left the roadway, hit a utility pole and fire hydrant before ejected Mego.

This incident happened Friday morning at approximately 6:28 AM in Gilpin Township at approximately 3140 River Road.

Mego was traveling north towards Leechburg when he lost control of the motorcycle. He was thrown from the bike approximately 30 feet.  He was wearing a helmet.  No autopsy will be performed.  Toxicological analysis will be back in a few weeks.  Speed is believed to be a factor.  The cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head and chest.  He was pronounced dead at the scene by Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers.

The investigation is ongoing by the Coroner’s office and the Pennsylvania State Police – Kittanning.

The Coroner’s office was assisted at the scene by Gilpin Township and the Leechburg fire departments, Leechburg Police, the Armstrong County Sheriff’s Office and Lower Kiski EMS.
