Rainy Weather Raises River Levels

Jadon Carlson from Dayton takes his lunch break from working at Wal-Mart in the Hilltop Plaza to come to the Kittanning Riverfront Park amphitheater to watch the Allegheny River. Water levels are now over the main deck and up over the first row of seating.

A flash flood watch yesterday continued for the Kittanning, Ford City, and villages along the Allegheny River.

Ongoing showers the last week have brought about localized heavy rain. Given already saturated ground, a flooding threat exists in isolated areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh this morning, a slight chance of showers with thunderstorms are possible after 2PM today. Temperatures should reach near 80.

The same forecast is expected to continue through Thursday.

The rain is expected to give way to sunshine on Friday and Saturday. However, it may be too late for the concert that is scheduled for Saturday night. The Arts on the Allegheny will present “The Commonheart” in the amphitheater if the river levels subside. This is one of only two concerts scheduled this summer in Kittanning Riverfront Park.
