On May 8, 2019, the Richard G. Snyder YMCA had the honor of awarding seven scholarships from the Barbara A. Snyder Memorial Scholarship Fund. Created following the passing of Barbara A. Snyder in the fall of 2017, the scholarship honors its namesake’s reputation for being a model of cause-driven leadership.
Snyder wanted the scholarship to help others fulfill their goals and pursue their education with the help of the Y. The purpose of the Barbara A. Snyder Memorial Scholarship Fund is to support opportunities inside and outside of the Y, such as summer camps, church camps, college or university higher education, tech schools, youth programming and adult programming.
The creation of the Barbara A. Snyder Memorial Scholarship Fund makes the Richard G. Snyder YMCA the only Y branch to have its own scholarship fund.
Richard G. Snyder YMCA CEO Jack Clevesy can think of no one else better to honor.
“Barb was a very passionate person who cared deeply about the Lord, our community and the Richard G. Snyder YMCA campus,” he said.
The 2019 recipients of the Barbara A. Snyder Memorial Scholarship Fund were:
1. Susan Edwards, Tai Chi for Health Institute
2. Kyah Savona, Camp Judson
3. Jocelyn Dias, Butler County Community College, Pennsylvania
4. Elizabeth Shiring, Indiana University of Pennsylvania
5. Brett Lundgren, Penn State University, Pennsylvania
6. Betsy George, Master’s Degree Psychology
7. Kenneth Silvis, Full Sail University, Florida
Richard G. Snyder, the husband of Barbara, and Andrea Clevesy, volunteer for the Barbara A. Snyder
Memorial Scholarship Fund, were on hand at the ceremony to present the awards. “I am honored to be a
part of this scholarship fund,” said Clevesy. “We loved Barb and thank her for allowing us this opportunity.”
With the 2019 scholarships awarded, the Y is already looking forward to next year. For scholarship
