Local Students Win Regional Musical Honors

Selected students from Armstrong Junior-Senior High School participated in the 2019 Region II Chorus festival under the direction of Baldwin-Wallace University Professor Frank Bianchi.
Additionally, Isabel Valasek, Megan McLafferty, and Morgan Shellhammer accomplished the difficult feat of chairing to the All-State Mixed Chorus to be held on April 3-6 in Pittsburgh.

Isabel Valasek also took 1st chair Soprano 2 at both District chorus and Region chorus this year, was chosen as a concert soloist in both festival concerts, and was chosen (based on last years All-State results) to be a part of the All-Easter Mixed Choir which is held on April 4 – 7 in Pittsburgh this year.

“In 16 years, I’ve only had one other student chosen for All-East Choir and Isabel will be the first All-Eastern student from Armstrong High School,” said AHS Music Teacher Joshua Meyer. “All-Eastern is chosen from 11 States All-State students and Pennsylvania (based on membership numbers) makes up 25% of the All-Eastern ensembles. It is extremely rare and difficult to be at the level necessary to be chosen for the All-Eastern ensembles.”

Both All-States and All-Eastern are being held concurrently in Pittsburgh with the All-State concerts happening on Saturday April 6th, and the All-Eastern concerts occurring on Sunday, April 7th. Tickets can be purchased for the David L. Lawrence Convention Center concerts at www.ticketor.com/pmea

“We are extremely proud of all of these students,” Meyer said. “Isabel has earned well-deserved recognition for the All-Eastern inclusion.”
