Hileman Seeks Re-Election as Register/Recorder

Marianne Hileman is seeking re-election as Register/Recorder for 2020.

During her time in office, she has digitized multiple types of documents available on the office computer stations as well as the Landex website. The website provides service to individuals who cannot come into the office to view documents. However, this is a pay website.

Hileman said that the responsibility of the Recorder of Deeds is to record and maintain accurate and complete records related to real estate transactions while protecting them from loss, theft, or damage. Real Estate transactions include Deeds and Mortgages, Leases, Easements, Veterans’ Discharges (not available to the public) to Powers of Attorney which deal with real estate and Notary Public Bonds and Commissions.

She explained that the Register of Wills is the repository and record manager relating to wills and the probate thereof. Wills for living persons are not kept on file.

Clerk of Orphans’ Court is responsible for the accuracy and complete maintenance of case files for accounts (estate, trust, and guardian) adoptions (sealed records – not available), appeals, claims against estates, marriage applications, guardianships, minors’ estates, small estate proceedings, and trusts as well as other miscellaneous filings.

“Many individuals visit the office seeking information about Genealogy as well,” Hileman said. “We do have birth and death records dating from 1893 through 1905 as well as older marriage licenses from 1893 to present.“

“I would appreciate your continued support to serve the public for these three offices,” Hileman said in a statement. “My experienced and friendly staff continues to keep the records current and do it in a responsible fashion.”

Hileman was the first person to announce candidacy for a county office.
