Demolition Planned for Blighted Downtown Property

Before the wrecking ball hits this blighted house on Diamond Way in downtown Kittanning, the family of cats will have to be relocated. A black and white cat is seen on the porch roof enjoying the afternoon sun.

Kittanning Borough Council was informed that a downtown property has been scheduled for demolition over the next few months.

The duplex house is located along Diamond Way, behind the municipal parking lot behind Nextier Bank on the alley between South Jefferson and South McKean Streets.

A fire gutted sections of the house several years ago, making it uninhabitable. Both owners vacated the premises and eventually, it fell into the hands of the county.

Armstrong County, through a new blight initiative, chose the property to be demolished.

On Monday night, Kittanning Borough Council completed paperwork that will enable Brad Baker Excavating to begin demolition.

Senator Don White in addition to county and borough leaders plan to commemorate the start of demolition on January 18.
