OBIT: Nick Samuel Desiderio, 87, Ford City

DESIDERIO – Nick Samuel Desiderio, 87, of Ford City, died on December 28, 2018 at his residence.

“Sam” was born on September 6, 1931 in Templeton, a son of Nick and Geraldine Mazzerila Desiderio.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korean War. He was a member of Christ Prince of Peace Parish. He was a life member of the Latin American Club. He retired from A&P and PPG. He was a lifelong resident of the community.

Sam enjoyed woodworking and would go to Ford City Subway for coffee each morning with his friends. He regularly would visit the gravesite of his wife and son.

He is survived by his daughter: Cathy and Don Poorman of Kittanning; son: Philip and Barbara Desiderio of Acme, PA; two grandchildren: Andrea Poorman and friend Jason Hileman, and Justin and Michele Poorman; and two great-grandchildren: Rhys and Cameron Poorman.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife: L. Katherine Tremont Desiderio, who died on June 1, 2013; his son: James Desiderio; and brothers: Guy “Tom” Desiderio and James Desiderio.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Mantini Funeral Home, 701 Sixth Avenue, in Ford City. A Prayer Service will be held at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Christ Prince of Peace Parish with Father Ricky Cortez, celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
