LOCAL SPORTS: W/K Stangs Blast Craters in Mars

W/K Stangs teammates congratulate Reise Matson for hitting the game-winning grand slam on Wednesday night. The Stangs won over Mars, 19-2.

Wednesday night’s youth baseball contest was over before it even started.

The W/K Stangs blasted their way to a 19-2 victory over the Mars Fighting Planets thanks to grand slams by Jacob Allen and Reise Matson.

Noah Cyphert added a three-run homerun of his own. The spotlight shown bright on leadoff man Paul Cypher who finished a home run shy from the cycle going 4 for 4 with a single, two doubles, and a triple.

Starting pitcher Josh Leighton picked up the win, only giving up two runs over four innings of work. One of those runs came on a moon shot by Zach Palmer that left the crowd in awe. Besides that, Leighton only gave up one more hit the entire ball game.

W/K Stangs will be back in action at Worthington West-Franklin Civic Center next Wednesday at 6PM against the North Allegheny Tigers. The game can be heard live on WTYM 1380 radio and will be rebroadcasted on Family-Life TV Thursday at 7PM.
