State Police Release Accident Report for January

The Kittanning barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police released information from traffic accidents that troopers investigated so far this month. Many were a result of severe weather conditions we have experienced.

A two-vehicle accident occurred on January 12 in Rural Valley Borough. This accident occurred shortly before 9PM.

Jamie Lamison, 34, was driving a 2011 GMC Sierra westbound on Route 85 just past the intersection with North Water Street. A deer came out onto the roadway. Lamison swerved the vehicle into the opposite lane of traffic to avoid striking the deer, hitting a 2008 Toyota Rav4 driven by Diana Bearce, 52, of Sagamore. Due to the impact, Lamison’s vehicle rolled onto its roof, spun out of control, struck the northern berm, and then flipped back over onto its wheels.
Lamison showed no signs of injury. Bearce was transported by Kittanning EMS to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries.

A three-vehicle accident occurred on January 11 at approximately 5:30 PM. It happened on Butler Road in West Kittanning. No details of the accident were provided by in the accident report.

The operator was not identified in an afternoon crash on January 11 in Applewold Borough. A 2012 Ford Focus was traveling west on Butler Road at the intersection with Pine Hill Road. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle sustained damage to tis front end and a flat front tire as a result of the crash. No injuries were reported at the scene. The vehicle was towed and the unidentified propeciafinasteridestore operator was cited for violations of the vehicle code.

A Ringgold man avoided injury on January 8 at approximately 7:30 PM in a crash that occurred on Route 85 in Valley Township.

Gary Stear, 68, was driving a 2008 Dodge Dakota when it struck a patch of ice and entered an uncontrolled yaw. Stear attempted to correct the yaw, but began to skid forward toward a driveway, striking a utility pole. The impact caused the pole to break approximately 16 inches above the ground and was completely unearthed.

A crash on Route 28 at the intersection of Church Road in North Buffalo Township occurred on January 8.

43-year-old Loren Rimmel and an unidentified 12-year-old child were traveling south approximately 2.5 miles north of exit 18 in a 2009 Pontiac Vibe. The vehicle hit slush and began to fishtail. It left the highway and struck the concrete barrier on the side of the road.
According to Trooper Logan Small, no one was injured in the accident.

A crash occurred on January 8 at 1:41 PM on Route 85 near Lauster Road in Valley Township.
A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by James Libengood, 47, of Dayton was traveling westbound down a hill when his vehicle struck an ice patch causing it to slide. Libengood was unable to regain control of the vehicle due to slippery road conditions and slid into the opposite lane of travel. It struck a utility pole and continued down an embankment for another 20 yards.

Neither Libengood or his passengers, 39-year-old Sherry Claypoole-Libengood and 22-year-old Jacob Miller, were injured.
