(VIDEO) Kittanning Businesses Kick Off Christmas Season

One thing is clear – Santa Claus came to Kittanning Friday night, November 17.

11-year-old Nevaeh Yount from Kittanning Township takes a pony ride. This is the second year she rode the pony at Light Up Kittanning Night.

Riding in on Kittanning Hose Company #1 aerial truck, Santa threw the magic snow that lit the lights. Then he dismounted and made his way into Citizens Bank, where children stood in line the length of the building to get a few minutes with the giver of Christmas presents.

A pumpkin pie eating contest separated the ones not afraid to snort some whipped cream. Various youth groups sang on the make-shift stage throughout the evening.

Vendors sold various foods and Dizzy Lizzie Restaurant stayed open to offer a chicken wing buffet.

Missing from this year’s attractions was the miniature train, that was eliminated this year. In fact, this year’s event held by the business group “Downtown Kittanning, Inc.” was light on attractions overall.

The pony rides were back and high school students stood in front of the 700 Shop performing brass solos of Christmas music.
