Emotions were in the air at West Shamokin High School on Tuesday night when the Wolves varsity soccer team came away with a big 13-1 win over Saltsburg on senior night.
The Wolves looked just as dominant as they ever have in their first two years in the Heritage Conference, dominating the whole way.
The Wolves have posted an 8-3-1 record this year with three home games remaining. They sit in fourth place in District 6 standings, and that’s all the more motivation for this team moving forward.
“We’re going all the way, that was our sight from the beginning (to win it all). We knew this was the year to do it; we have two of the best players in my opinion in the state in Liam and Luke Alese – and our defense is stellar. This is the year to do it if we’re going to do it,” senior Sam Skamai said.
The team ‘family’ was a big part of the Wolves senior night win, and that started when they took the field together in varsity play.
“We just went out and put a lot of heart into it. We had a lot of fun tonight, you hear it every time we hit the field – it has always been 1, 2, 3, family (in the huddle). We have been doing that since the beginning and it’s really been all about the family,” senior John Rearick said.
The Wolves will be hosting their final three regular season games before they move on to the District 6 playoffs. The next game will be against United at home on Thursday afternoon.
