Armstrong & Karns City Evenly Matched for Tonight’s Game

Both teams have been anticipating this game since it was announced. Now that the summer’s preparations are finished, it’s game day!

The Armstrong River Hawks are all set to open their season today as they host the Karns City Gremlins.  Last year Armstrong was able to secure a 35-22 victory.

This time though, both teams will look very different – Armstrong lost the most productive running back in WPIAL history in Zane Dudek who had over 3,000 total yards last season and 278 yards and 4 touchdowns last year against the Gremlins.

Karns City also lost their starting QB Jacob King who put up 16 passing touchdowns, they also go into the season without their stable of running backs (5) who combined for over 3,000 rushing yards and 45+ touchdowns combined.

This year, the River Hawks will return just three starters – one of which is senior Dawson Porter who will take over as the teams quarterback this year. Porter combines has big play-ability with his combination of his arm and legs as he will bring more athleticism to that position this year.

In the backfield for the River Hawks, Armstrong will be utilizing size and speed, the Aretz brothers will provide the power and sophomore in Isaac Ridinger who has been turning heads at practice with his burst and agility will bring the speed.

In a local WTYM radio poll, just over 50% felt Karns City would take win what now is being referred to as the local rivalry game, much like the former Kittanning-Ford City rivalry of the past. Even if you can’t attend the game, you can hear every play on WTYM.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM from the Kittanning High School football field and you can follow every play from wherever you are on 1380 AM, via your computer at WTYMradio.com, or download the free WTYM mobile app (search for “wtym radio” on either Google Play for android or the App Store for iPhones).
