It was a special night in multiple ways for the Lady Wolves, not only did they advance to the PIAA State 3A Semi-Finals by defeating Neshannock 38-35, but West Shamokin’s Junior guard Olivia Fusaro hit a rare milestone – scoring 1,000 career points.
West Shamokin jumped out to a 21-11 first half lead, but after the half-time break the Lady Wolves were heavily pressured by the Lady Lancers defense.
With just less than six minutes remaining in the game, Lady Wolves guard Olivia Fusaro nailed a 3-pointer before being fouled for her 1,000th point to extend West Shamokin’s lead to 7.
“I’m thrilled for the girls, I’m thrilled that Olivia hit 1,000 (points). We were up 10 at halftime and Coach Parks and I repeatedly said they’re (Neshannock) coming after us. Whether it’s a man (defense) and trap or zone and trap, they’re coming after us. We played better more often than not tonight, but there’s still room for improvement,” West Shamokin Head Coach Frank Nagy said.
Fusaro would finish with a game-high 18 points including 11 of the 12 points West Shamokin scored in the fourth quarter. Jasah Huth of the Lady Wolves had a great overall game as well, finishing with 12 points, 4 steals, and 4 rebounds.
The Lady Wolves will now head back to North Allegheny High School this Tuesday at 6:00 PM, this time to take on Bishop Canevin in the State Semi-Finals.
