Local Author and Film Producer Aaron Dunbar visited Lenape Elementary School and Divine Redeemer School for “Read Across American Week” Feb. 27- March 3.

The author of “A Wish for Giants” – a book about a cancer-stricken girl whose wish is to find “Bigfoot” – showed students the first few minutes of the upcoming movie and explained the writing Process (including formation of characters, a plot and a storyline), editing, publishing and editing to students.

“The kids liked it; I think they enjoyed it,” Dunbar said. “They’ve been buying books and T-shirts ever since.”

Students at both schools were cast as extras in the opening scene of the movie – which was shot at the former-Kittanning Township Elementary School in October.

Filming is about halfway completed, and Dunbar hopes to be finished this June. Filming will also take place at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s main campus.

“I think a lot of people are excited to see it come out and are looking forward to it,” Dunbar said.

At the end of the assembly all the students who had participated in the filming of the movie had their picture taken with Dunbar.
