Armstrong Varsity Hockey Drops Sixth Straight Despite Late Push

The Armstrong River Hawks (4-7) had the power play unit firing on all cylinders Monday evening against Pine-Richland (5-7-1) scoring two power play goals, but that was not enough as the River Hawks lost their sixth straight game, 4-3.

The Armstrong River Hawks have been struggling recently while dealing with the injury bug and though they defeated Pine-Richland earlier this season both teams had a different look to them Monday evening at the Baierl Ice Complex in Warrendale.

Armstrong found themselves down early again after letting up a first period goal to Pine-Richland’s Joseph Ditullio 7:22 into the opening period.

Pine-Richland would hold the 1-0 lead over Armstrong until the beginning parts of the second period when the River Hawk’s Nicholas Benvenuti found the back of the twine on an assist from Zachary Kutch for Armstrong’s first power play goal of the night only 1:26 into the second period.

The score would remain tied for another ten minutes before Pine-Richland jumped back in front firing in two unanswered goals at 11:11 and 12:50 in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the third.

Pine-Richland kept their goal scoring going into the third when Antonio Binotto 2:09 into the third period to stretch their lead to two goals at 4-2.

Armstrong would keep it interesting though by making it a one score game when Easton Hooks scored the River Hawks second power play goal of the night at 16:53 in the third thanks to Kutch’s second assist of the night.

Unfortunately for Armstrong that was where their goal scoring came to an end, leaving them with a 4-3 loss to Pine-Richland.

Armstrong will have the opportunity to snap their six game losing skid this Thursday as they host Cathedral Prep (4-5-3) at the Belmont Complex at 7:00 PM.
