est Shamokin girls varsity basketball team is now set to play Armstrong in the Championship tomorrow at six, as for the West Shamokin boys they fell to North Gate 57-54 and will play Clarion Limestone in the consolation game.

Armstrong’s girls started the evening by earning a double digit win against Highlands for the right to play in the championship game.

The following game saw Karns City earn a spot in the championship against North Gate with a victory over Clarion Limestone.

As for the West Shamokin games, the girls got the night rolling for the home crowd as they jumped to a 19-2 first quarter lead over Shady Side Academy and never looked back.

The final score is a bit deceiving as West Shamokin subbed out their starters in the fourth quarter as they lead by over 20 points. The final score of the first round match-up was 59-38 behind 22 points from Wolves junior Olivia Fusaro.

West Shamokin will have a chance to avenge their only loss of the season tomorrow against Armstrong and Wolves Head Coach Frank Nagy is expecting another classic.

“I talked to the girls about how there’s no surprises. We know their team and they know ours, this time we really know each other. This match-up isn’t based on the summer or AAU, or anything. We have already played this year, we know them, they know us, and it was a great game last time, 27-26 a very good defensive game and I expect this time to be the same. I expect it to be a grind it out game, a close game where both teams are working hard each possession. It’s going to be a fun one,” Nagy said.

The consolation games will start at 3:00 PM with a game scheduled every hour and a half leading up to the championship games at 6:00 PM (Girls) and 7:30 PM (Boys).
