Apollo Man Dies along Roaring Run Trail

Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers said 27-year-old Daniel Shearer went for a run Tuesday evening, but didn’t return that evening. An autopsy revealed he died of natural causes.

An Apollo man was found dead along the Roaring Run Trail in Kiski Township.

According to Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers, Daniel Albert Shearer, 27, went for a run on Tuesday evening about 7PM. When he didn’t return home that night, his mother went looking for his car.

She found it along the trail and called 9-1-1, when Kiski Township Police and firefighters started searching for the subject. He was found about a mile from the entrance to the trail and pronounced dead on-scene.

After the autopsy was performed, it was determined that Shearer died of natural causes.

Toxicology results are pending.

According to Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home, Daniel lived in Kiski Township most of his life and graduated from Apollo-Ridge High School in 2006 with honors. He attended Indiana University of PA and Community College of Allegheny County majoring in communications and psychology.

Daniel enjoyed jogging, fishing, riding bikes, traveling and writing screen plays.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Anna Shearer; uncle, William L. Shearer, Jr. and his aunt, Sandra A. Shearer.

In addition to his mother, Daniel is survived by his maternal grandfather, William L. Shearer, Sr. of Kiski Township; aunts, Ruth Kerr of Apollo and Crystal (Brett) Klingensmith of Kiski Township; several cousins and his beloved German Shepard “Boone”.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8PM tomorrow – Friday, October 2, 2015 -at the funeral home in Apollo.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in his memory to the funeral home.

The investigation is ongoing by the Armstrong County Coroner’s Office and the Kiski Townshp Police. The coroner’s office was assisted at the scene by Kiski Twp. Fire Dept., Parks Twp. Police, Vandergrift EMS and the Armstrong Co. DA’s Office.
