Man Killed by Elk County Rattlesnake

Russell E. Davis, 39 of Freedom, PA (Beaver County) died late Saturday night after being bitten by a venomous snake at his family camp in Medix Run, PA (Elk County).

Davis was sitting around the fire at his family’s camp when he was bitten by a rattlesnake just before midnight on Saturday, July 18. He was taken by private vehicle to meet the ambulance due to Acute Respiratory Distress.

Davis was taken to Penn Highlands Hospital in St. Mary’s, PA. From there, he was to be air lifted to a Pittsburgh Hospital. However, while in route, Davis arrested in the helicopter. The helicopter then landed at ACMH Hospital in Kittanning where he was pronounced dead by Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers.

The cause of death was Anaphylactic Reaction to a Venomous snake bite and the manner of death was ruled accidental. There will be no autopsy performed.
