Violet Orina (Bowser) Hooks-Ruffner, 84 of Worthington died Sunday, October 7, 2012 in ACMH Hospital.
She was born October 29, 1927 in Kittanning to Lee W. and Mary (Slagle) Bowser.
A lifelong community resident, Violet retired from Moonlight Mushrooms. She also worked at H.J. Heinz in Pittsburgh, G.C. Murphy in Kittanning, Bobbie Brooks in Butler and PPG Store in Kittanning.
Violet was a member of the Brush Valley Brethren Church in Adrian and a member of the Women’s Missionary Group and Bible study.
She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, camping, traveling, sewing and spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Violet is survived by her two sons: Herbert D. Hooks and wife, Betty, of Templeton and Amos (Linda) Hooks of Hadley; daughter, Prudence (John) Burke of Worthington; seven grandchildren: Gidget (John) Kidder, Tonya (Tony) Little, Kimberly (Tim) Claypoole, Herb (Mary Lou) Hooks, Theresa (John) Ceremuga, Amy (Mike Peterson) Ceremuga and Barbara (Lance) Hearn; four step-grandchildren: George (Lorie) Kilgore, Joe Kilgore, John Kilgore and Charles (Wendy) Swartz; 27 great-grandchildren: Allison, Alecia and Megan Kidder, Jonathan, Abigail, Andrew and Anna Rose Little, Stephanie, Tori and Andrew Claypoole, Megan Lowry, Jenna, Nikki and Emily Hooks, Brian Hooks, Stephan Ceremuga, Serrenah and Pereston Peterson, Jessica Madelyn and Brevyn Ceremuga, Peyton and Collin Hearn, Stephanie, Beth Ann and Samantha Kilgore and Olivia Swartz; sister, Florence Goodgasell of Michigan; brother, Leslie D. (Betty) Bower of Michigan; brother-in-law, Harry Dias of Michigan; sister-in-law, Joanne Potkalitsky of Kittanning; lifelong friend, Alene Crouch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, I van J. Hooks; second husband, Lee Ruffner; friend, Paul Sims; six brothers: Loran , Richard, Andrew, Floyd, Jack and Finley Bowser; and three sisters: Sylvia Wolfe, Jean Fryling and Phyllis Dias.
Friends will be received from 7-9PM today, Tuesday, October 9, 2012 and from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home in Worthington.
Additional visitation will also be held from 10AM until the time of funeral services at 11AM Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Brush Valley Brethren Church in Adrian.
The Rev. Wesley Lewis and the Rev. Vincent Edwin will co-officiate.
Interment will be in Brush Valley Church Cemetery.
