Elementary Wrestler Seeks State Championship

A West Hills Intermediate fifth-grader, Mayce Wonderling, pinned two of her opponents in the competition last weekend.

 

Mayce Wonderling of Kittanning takes the gold medal during the USGWA Ohio state championship March 10 in Doylestown, Ohio. Mayce will compete in the Pennsylvania state championship March 25 in Troy, Pa.

An elementary wrestler is on her way to becoming a state champion.

Mayce Wonderling, 11, of Kittanning won the Ohio United States Girls’ Wrestling Association open state championship in the 85-pound elementary block March 10 in Doylestown, Ohio.

A wrestler the past four years, Wonderling is a fifth grader at West Hills Intermediate in Kittanning.

Wonderling will compete at the 13th annual Pennsylvania open championships March 25 at Troy High School in Troy, Pa. She is one of four girls in her age bracket.

She is also reportedly the only local participant.

Mayce, the daughter of Dave and Samantha Wonderling of Kittanning, is involved in athletics year-round, including in football.
