Betty June Rumbaugh, 89, of Dayton, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at St. Andrews Village in Indiana, PA.
She was born on August 26, 1922, in Plumcreek Township, the daughter of Mellon and Ella Blanche (Miller) Thomas.
Betty was a lifetime resident of the area and graduated from Elderton High School. She married her husband and best friend, Dennis Rumbaugh, on February 3, 1943 and together they owned and operated Rumbaugh’s Poultry Farm and Rumbaugh’s Custom Framing. Betty was a dedicated member of Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church and served as a past deacon and past treasurer. She also held memberships in the Dayton Grange #1819 and Dayton Camera Club.
Betty loved to prepare homemade meals and she enjoyed delivering her specialties, including her famous buns and angel food cakes to her friends. Betty also enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family; going to the family camp in Marienville was one of her favorite things to do. Betty’s family will never forget her love for them and she will be greatly missed.
Her memory will be cherished by her son, Ronald D. (Sue) Rumbaugh of Dayton; two daughters: Joyce E. (Donald) Jamison of Dayton and Cynthia L. (Randy) Snyder of Shelocta; five grandchildren: Greg (Rachel) Rumbaugh, Brad (Renee) Jamison, Wendy (Jon) Pelky, Jason Snyder and Sherita Snyder; three great-grandchildren: Emily, Zachary and Samantha; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 44 years, Dennis Rumbaugh, who passed away on November 9, 1987; one infant grandson; four brothers: Jacob Dale, Mellon, Lawrence, and Vernon “Clair” Thomas; and three sisters: Ethel Parks, Mildred Williams and Ella Mae McMeans.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home in Dayton.
Additional visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of funeral services at 11AM on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church, 2540 Dayton Smicksburg Rd. in Dayton, with her nephew, Lay Speaker Tom Harris officiating.
Burial will immediately follow at Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Cemetery.
