BUFFONE: Is the Super Bowl an Elitist Event?
by John Buffone
For those of us who had dreams of playing in a Super Bowl dashed years ago, the dream of even attending a Super Bowl may be fading fast as well. As the NFL becomes a bigger and bigger juggernaut in the professional sports scene, it’s quickly exposing the gap between blue-collared, die-hard fans and high-status celebrity party goers. If you were searching for a Super Bowl ticket this year, you may have been shocked to see that the lowest-priced seat was set at over $600. That price likely increased by hundreds of dollars depending on the outlet in which the ticket was bought. In 1967, the Super Bowl was still a novel concept and some tickets sold for as low as $6. Obviously those prices weren’t going to last forever but just ten years ago, the lowest price for a Super Bowl ticket hovered around $325. Even if you are lucky enough to attend the big game, the expenses don’t end once you enter the stadium. The concession prices at this year’s Super Bowl were of astronomical proportions. A bottle of was listed at $5, a bottle of soda was $6, a bratwurst was listed at $10, a bottle/can of beer was $11 and a souvenir bucket of popcorn was listed at a hefty $20. While the Super Bowl itself is engraved in American culture, actually attending the game now seems to be reserved for the top 1%. (Enter “Occupy Super Bowl” joke here).

Yes our super bowl is an elitist even. That’s why our elitist school board director, Rearic, attended. He’ll never relate to the real world whether his employer bought the ticket or not.

Yikes..I hope this was a Super Bowl “hangover” article for you John..not your best work..grammatically or entertainment-wise.
A bottle of was listed at $5. I think you meant ingrained, rather than engraved. Keep trying though.

Billybob65- you really need to get out of Ford City sometime if your idea of “elite” is going to a Super Bowl.

I agree with billybob65,with the economy the way it is now who can afford 6oo.oo dollars for a ticket plus the added costs to stay and get there? If you think this is affordable to you wakeup then maybe you belong to the “elite club” and cannot relate to the average person.
