Leader-Times Reporter Arrested for Alleged Obscenity

A reporter for a local newspaper was arrested and briefly held by police after allegedly sending a nude photo of himself to two underage girls.

Patrick Shuster, 41 of Kittanning is accused of sending the photo June 29, which was seen by two underage females, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old.

Calls to Shuster’s home and work phone numbers were not answered or returned. He has reportedly been suspended from the newspaper without pay.

Shuster will face four third-degree felony charges, including criminal use of communication facility, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and obscene and other sexual materials and performances. He will also face four misdemeanor charges, including indecent exposure, corruption of minors, open lewdness and unlawful contact with a minor.

Shuster was released Wednesday after posting a $15,000 bond before Magisterial District Judge Gary DeComo.

Criminal dockets say Shuster was arraigned at 9AM July 20. His preliminary hearing has been set for Thursday, July 28 at 9AM.
