Leader-Times Reporter Arrested for Alleged Obscenity

A reporter for a local newspaper was arrested and briefly held by police after allegedly sending a nude photo of himself to two underage girls.

Patrick Shuster, 41 of Kittanning is accused of sending the photo June 29, which was seen by two underage females, a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old.

Calls to Shuster’s home and work phone numbers were not answered or returned. He has reportedly been suspended from the newspaper without pay.

Shuster will face four third-degree felony charges, including criminal use of communication facility, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and obscene and other sexual materials and performances. He will also face four misdemeanor charges, including indecent exposure, corruption of minors, open lewdness and unlawful contact with a minor.

Shuster was released Wednesday after posting a $15,000 bond before Magisterial District Judge Gary DeComo.

Criminal dockets say Shuster was arraigned at 9AM July 20. His preliminary hearing has been set for Thursday, July 28 at 9AM.

I can’t help but wonder, if one has no morals* or honesty in his personal life, can one have it in his professional life?
    * Disclaimer. Writer understands it is an (although admitted) alleged inappropriate involvement with minors, to what degree, uncertain Writer does not assume the position that one is guilty before trial. Writer does question the choice of lawyers, and hopes for a fair and balanced replacement of man in question. Writer is laughing at that.

I wonder if he used Leader times computers for the facebook communication or if the leader times provides his cell phone…………..

There is a God and justice is his. Hope he got knocked off his biased, untruthful, high horse over this one considering he has no one to blame but himself for this perverted sick act.

We must remember the person is innocent until proven guilty. However, I am fearfull if it is true. Why was he assigned to cover school news??? Did he ask for that assignment? If guilt is proven I think my concern speaks for itself.

  • By birdseyeview, July 22, 2011 @ 2:39 AM

    @ Savanah

It’s hard to be innocent until proven guilty, when he already admitted to doing it, and that he knew the family, and knew that they were only 12 & 13 years old. This type of behavior is plain disgusting. You have to fill sorry for the young girls and their parents. Not the guilty.

While I completely disagree with the alledged actions and I sympathize with the individuals who were so grossly injusticed, I challenge anyone who uses this posting site as entertainment fodder to quietly review their own lives to make sure that they are without spot or blemish. According to the demographics of this region, most people in the area consider themselves to be of the Christian faith. While we as humans weigh the sins of others with high morality, God does not, sin is sin. We have been called to pray for our enemies and not rejoice when folly enters their lives. Remember that and be loving and forgiving, lest ye also be judged.

let us all put these dear families in our prayers. They say acts like this go on until the person is caught, makes me wonder if there are other things that went on unreported.

@Savanah~ An ASD school board meeting is hardly covering school news. That’s grasping a bit. I think we all know that an ASD school board meeting is equivalent to chinese water torture…

Makes you wonder how much the Leader Times knew about this stuff. For a paper that has no problem smearing others reputations, they sure pute a little blip on the front page. Maybe before Mr. O’Hare writes his lances on the school board (yawn) as usual, he should look in house. Let’s see if he can take what he dishes out. Looking forward to his editorial this weekend.

    Come on Crom44!

i’m sure there’s more to the story and this guy knowing the girls and their age still does it. now his son has to grow up knowing his dad is on the sex offenders list. way to go

  • By billybob65, July 22, 2011 @ 5:14 PM

Wow Cromm44. Act as you preach. Aren’t you the one that yelled out at FCHS auditorium that Elderton kids are stupid????

Come on. This is repulsive and I suppose I would stay quiet on this and let it fall into justice’s hands if it wasn’t that this guy had no problem dragging others through the mud. Sad part is most of his mud dragging was done out of spite and exaggerated.

  • By momof3, July 23, 2011 @ 1:04 PM

I’m all for innocent until proven guilty, but come on – he admitted to it and with technology today, I’m sure there is proof. Why does a 41 yr old man even have the number of a 12 year old girl who is not related? This kind of perversion does not happen over night, so you have to wonder if there are other incidents.

  • By crom44, July 23, 2011 @ 5:00 PM

    @ dirty ratz
If you read the first line I stated I did not agree with the alledged actions. Nowhere did I nor would I support anything of that nature. My post was to get people to think about their lives as well prior to jumping in and posting for entertainment purposes. There are a lot people’s whole lives at stake here.

    @billybob65
I try to act as I preach as much as possible and I realize I am far prom perfection. Also you are mistaken about who I am, I did not yell out at any meeting that Elderton kids are stupid. I student taught at Elderton and the kids there have just as much intelligence as any other school. That is just plain incorrect.
As far as the rest of my post, take the time to reread it to try and understand what I meant. With that being said, forgiveness does not take away consequences. If he is found guilty then there will be judicial consequences as well as other lifetime consequences. If he is found not guilty there will still be people out there who will question everything about him for his entire life. Regardless, the whole point I was trying to make won’t be understood by people who enjoy watching other people’s lives being destroyed whether they, by societies standards, deserve it or not. I guess part of me is also just tired of how our society has changed. I condemn the act but not the person and while I admit if this were to happen to my children I would probably be blind with rage, I would hope that I would find the courage to forgive, just as many people have before with cases that are more devastating, i.e. rape and murder.
Please feel free to email me to discuss further as I do not hide who I am. Perhaps I could explain it better then. Or better yet, come to Harvest Community Church in Kittanning or any bible believing church and hear what truths God has to say about forgiveness.

Yes we can say what happened is unbelievable. No matter what he will be judged for everything he does for the rest of his life. He will be looked at and snickered at and whispered about. I thought I knew this person, but do we ever really know what drives a person to do or say things they do. Technology today is a dangerous thing. I for one stand beside him and give him my support no matter how this turns out. No one is ever perfect at anything they do and if you think you are then you stand alone!

  • By Jerri, July 28, 2011 @ 3:15 PM

Are you kidding????? You will stand beside this guy no matter what???? I hope you don’t have kids or access to kids in any way.

Sorry this guy is 41. He knew what he was doing. And the evidence is there. He admitted it. It’s not technology that’s dangerous. It’s the idiots that use it…and predators also.

  • By crom44, July 28, 2011 @ 10:08 PM

    @Jerri

That is a hateful thing to say that you hope that someone who hasn’t even been accused of anything doesn’t have children or access to children!

As I have stated in previous posts regarding this subject, one can condemn the action and still support the person who did something wrong.

I trust that you are completely perfect in everything that you do? Remember sin is sin regardless of the morality that we as humans place on it.

Finally, please refer to the entirety of my previous posts and you are invited to discuss this via email with me also. I told this accused person that I completely disagreed with the action but as a friend I also told him that I would support him and offer help that I could give. Just how perfect are you??? I am not.
