OBIT: Gerald G. Clawson (Shelocta)

Gerald G. Clawson, 83, of Shelocta, died on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at ACMH Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 1, 1927, in Vandergrift,  the son of Charles G. and Goldie G. (Wilson) Clawson.

Mr. Clawson was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church of Gastown and was a lifelong resident of the Gastown area. He honorably served his country in the US Army during WWII as a military policeman. He received the Army Occupation Medal, the Asiatic –Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Ribbon.  Gerald retired from Local 66 Laborer’s Union after 45 years of service as an equipment operator. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the William Penn.

Gerald was a friend to all that knew him, especially those with whom he socialized with at the clubs he belonged to.  He loved the outdoors and looked forward to small game hunting with the beagles he trained. Gerald also enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching the Steelers play but his most important interest was his family members. His favorite times were those spent with his daughters and extended family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his two daughters, Cindy Pritt and husband Wayne, and Judy (or “Katie” as Gerald called her) Conn, both of Shelocta; three grandchildren, Tiffany Schwanger, or “Taffy” to Gerald, and husband Vernon of Williamsport, PA, Hilary Pritt, otherwise known as “Hily Dilly” by her Pap-Pap, of Maryland, and Angela Pribesh and husband Matthew of Dayton, PA; and three great-grandchildren, Grace Schwanger, and Devin and Conner Pribesh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara Mabel (Frailey) Clawson, with whom he spent nearly 64 years of marriage prior to her death just a few short weeks ago, November 9, 2010; and two brothers, Jesse and Charles Clawson.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home in Elderton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Joyce Dix-Weiers officiating.

Full military honors will be presented by the American Legion Honor Guard at the funeral home immediately following funeral services.

Burial will follow in Elderton Cemetery.
