James F. Feeney, age 86, of Kittanning, died Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit, Cabot, PA surrounded by his family.
He was born January 16, 1924 in Kaylor, PA, the son of James Bernard and Myrtle (Lynch) Feeney.
Jim attended Gilpin Township grade school and Leechburg High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kittanning. He honorably served his country in the US Army from February 23, 1943 through September 5, 1945. Jim was in the European division serving in Germany and France. He also attended heavy equipment school at Fort Belvroir, Virginia. He received the Purple Heart along with the Bronze Star, the European African Middle Eastern Service medal and the five Bronze service stars.
Jim was a member of the Worthington American Legion Post #828, Veterans of Foreign Wars, life member of both the Purple Heart and the Disabled American Veterans, and member and past president of the UMWA local chapter.
Jim was an avid reader and his love of books and written word spanned all subjects from Popular Mechanics to National Geographic. He also enjoyed woodworking and was blessed with the ability to fix anything that was broken. His most important interest was his family members; his favorite times were those spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, caring father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by the people whose lives he has touched.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Betty Jane (Heasley) Feeney, with whom he shared 63 beautiful years of marriage; four children; his three sons, James B. Feeney and his wife Marsha of Applewold, Kevin M. Feeney and his wife Connie of Worthington, and Mark A. Feeney of Applewold; his daughter Kimberly S. Rush and her husband Barry of Kittanning; Four grandchildren, Kara L. Bartolovic, Michael Feeney, Kayla Rush, and Matthew Rush; Five step-grandchildren, Krystle Rikal, Michelle Menehyk, Michael Beckett, Ryan Rikal, and Marrissa Menehyk; Four great-grandchildren, Benjamin Bartolovic, Bella Bartolovic, Shiloh Feeney, and Zoey Feeney; three sisters, Catherine Crawford of West Chester, PA, Callista Lipsie and Jacqueline Roberts of Leechburg, PA; and one sister-in-law, Annamarie Feeney of Leechburg, PA.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John B. Feeney and Richard M. Feeney; a brother-in-law, James H. Roberts and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Riggle Feeney.
Relatives and friends may visit from 7-9PM Monday, September 27, 2010 and from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Bauer Funeral Home in Kittanning. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the funeral home with the Rev. Herb Reefer and Rev. Dr. Allyn Ricketts co-officiating.
Burial will follow at the Brookline Cemetery, Freeport, Pennsylvania with full military honors accorded by the American Legion Honor Guard.
