ASD Schedules Interviews

The Armstrong School District is scheduled to interview residents of Manor Township and Manorville Borough that would like to serve on the school board.

The resignation of Region IX director Michael Markilinski created a vacancy on the board that must be filled. The school board will convene next Wednesday, September 15 at 8:00 PM to publicly interview candidates desiring to replace Markilinski.

“Everyone knows that Mr. Markilinski resigned and we have an open seat to fill,” ASD School Board President Rose Stitt said. “We are accepting applications now through this Friday from anyone who lives in Manor Township or Manorville Borough (Region IX) if they wish to be a school board director.”

Stitt could not confirm the number of persons submitting applications for that position. She said the official vote will probably not be until the Caucus Meeting scheduled for September 20.

Stitt said they are also interviewing candidates for open positions for principals and assistant principals. She said the current count is 108 persons that have applied for the positions.  “We have a nice selection to choose from. We will be doing the final interviews possibly next Wednesday unless something gets delayed,” she said.

Is there no replacement election for this seat!?!? You mean to tell me the Board will hand select a replacement? If that’s the way the Board’s “bylaws” are setup that’s the way it has to be, I guess, but how does that remotely seem fair and legitimate?

What a waste of time. I’m sure the new director is being formed in little Jimmy’s basement.

Yes Madame President we all know that Director Markilinski resigned and we have an open seat to fill. As a resident of Manor Twp. and one of Director Markilinski’s constituents I am waiting for someone to report WHY he resigned???Afterall he did make some very important decisions while on the Board.
Madame President you cannot confirm the number of individuals submitting applications for the open seat but you know there are 108 applications for the principal openings!!!
After the appointment by the current board,I am hoping that seat is up for election next year, not that I don’t trust the judgement of the current board!!!!!!!

@Danboy….because we can’t talk about things in the media we can’t CONFIRM. Unlike, say, a teacher making “terroristic threats.”

Does anyone know if this appointment to school board is based on court ruling for realignment or still under the old system?
