Wilt Thou Not Revive Us Again?

Saturday on the date of 8/28, a group of many thousands of “predominantly white” people, as the AP reported, gathered in Washington D.C. for Glenn Beck’s long anticipated day of Restoring Honor. According to multiple news reports from multiple news organizations there could have been as few as 60,000, or as many as 1,000,000. Therefore, seeing that no one is absolutely sure, we shall simply subtract the former from the latter and say that there was a crowd of a possible 940,000. Regardless of the actual number, we know that the Restoring Honor rally was definitely larger in capacity than Al Sharpton’s “counter rally” about three miles away.

Beck said that the rally was not meant for the purpose of being a Tea Party. The congregation of like-minded people was to be a demonstration of how Americans sharing traditional American values such as faith in God were uniting as one to help restore the quickly fading honor in our nation, but the focus of the event was to center on the good things of America and what it has accomplished.

I completely agree with that style of focus on such an event. For more than a year now we’ve seen Americans shouting about how bad America has become, how out-of-control our government has been for some time, and how bad it is making our country as a result. There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact, the evils of our government need to be exposed at every chance, but sometimes we can get so mad about the way something is, we may almost forget about the good things that make it worth the uproar.

One of the main points of the rally that is important, regardless of what political philosophy is in the majority in Washington, was idea that America must turn back to God. Our nation was founded on a government whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, but without the divine providence of Almighty God to help guide us, the hope of our republic will surely be lost.

Glenn Beck said, “America today begins to turn back to God.” I hope that he becomes right on his assumption, for if we’ve ever needed God it is surely now. God has blessed our nation above what we deserve, but will only restore the honor of a less violent and corrupt society if we are willing to humble ourselves before Him and repent of our selfish ways. God can and will revive if we are willing to accept His will.
