An executive of S&T Bank in Indiana, PA responded to a letter received from Manor Township supervisors last month.
S&T Bank downsized its Manor Township branch on Pleasant View Drive on August 2. Customers now can only do banking from their car through the drive-up window or by using the ATM machine.
Nearly 500 signatures were collected last month on a petition and submitted to the bank requesting S&T to reconsider its decision. Manor Township supervisors also sent a letter, asking the bank to reconsider and continue their Manor branch as a full service branch.
In a response from S & T Senior Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer Edward C. Hauck, supervisors were thanked for expressing their concerns.
“Our decision to change our office from full service to drive-up only was made after considering all of the related business considerations and working to maintain a convenient level of service to the community and to our customers while taking into consideration the traffic volumes at that location, the safety of our employees, and related facts,” Hauck wrote.
Township supervisors as well as local residents had also expressed concern that the drive-up lanes would create a hazard for motorists attempting to use Pleasant View Drive.
“We do not anticipate that stacking of vehicles will create problems for Pleasant View Drive,” Hauck wrote. “We will closely monitor that situation and respond accordingly should that become a problem.”
S&T Bank Senior Vice-President Rob Jorgenson last month said the bank felt comfortable with their decision since they had other full service branches within several miles of the Manor Township branch.
“With the extended hours in Ford City and Hilltop Plaza, we felt very comfortable downsizing the Manor branch to a drive-up and ATM facility.”
Hauck agreed. “While we understand that the Ford City office is not convenient for everyone, we believe that we are providing locations and services to accommodate our important customer base in Manor, Ford City, and Kittanning.”
Jorgenson said he was not aware of any terminations or layoffs of S&T employees as a result of downsizing of the branch.
