Rizzo: Pens’ Loss Shocking

Just like that, it’s the end of Mellon Arena. No one expected the Pens to lose to Montréal. It has to be one of the most disappointing losses in Pittsburgh sports history. That’s why they have seven game series, so the better team can prove themselves. If you had a draft of all the players on Penguins and Canadiens rosters, seven of the top eight players would be Penguins. A week ago, the landscape looked perfect for Pens to reach the Finals. Most Pens fans are still in a state of shock. The question is what happens now? Gonchar and Cooke will be their two main unrestricted free agents. Crosby has three years left on current contract and between now and then the Pens will try to do something they never did at Mellon Arena, lift a Stanley Cup at home.
