KLINE: Laissez-Faire….Understand?

“Early to bed early to rise, gives government incentive to make your taxes high.”
It seems that our little friends in Washington just don’t wanna give up on their dream of taking over the lives of the American people. Whether it’s a jobs bill, stimulus package, or healthcare reform, they try to make themselves out to be parental figures.
First we saw the Bush Administration help out the big companies so as not to see them go belly up. Then we saw the current Obama Administration do the same thing. After a couple more Viagra shots to the deficit, we saw our president deciding to excessively tax the top ten biggest companies in America (regardless of whether or not they had yet paid back the bail-out money). While all this is happening, we have seen our government on an endless crusade to take over the healthcare system. They can’t help businesses stay afloat and certainly can’t keep their budget straight, but they feel they can heal the suffering healthcare system. In my view, government trying to help the healthcare industry is like giving grape juice at a blood drive…it may look good but it certainly won’t help.
I know the President loves to tell stories about people and their healthcare problems, so here’s mine. A man’s daughter from Mississippi needed cancer treatments. He didn’t have insurance, so he was going to have to pay for it out of his own pocket. However, he was told that if his daughter was an illegal immigrant, if she was born out of wed-lock, or if he and his wife were separated, then the government would cover the costs of her treatment. Now I’m not personally against people who have children illegitimately or people who are separated with children getting healthcare, but I am against government rewarding groups of people for practicing such lifestyles. I’m also against government using our money for the purpose of funding the healthcare coverage of illegal immigrants. A system where government completely rules would be even worse.
Government interference takes away incentive. It’s time that government left matters up to the American people, and just leave the private industry alone.

It’s rather ironic that your headline is a take-off on a quote from Ben Franklin’s “Poor Richard’s Almanac”. The irony is that Ben created two of our oldest and most depended-upon institutions which were hallmarks of the American Experience….fire departments and the postal system. These were publically financed, in the early years through taxes, with the sole purpose of providing for the common good. Yes….Socialism…because some things we just can’t do on our own. If my house is on fire, I don’t have to write a check prior to those brave men dousing the blaze. Also, it’s quite a bargain to be able to spend 43 cents to send a letter half-way around the world. Granted, the USPS is private now and some fire companies are staffed by volunteers; but, arguably, their best days and certainly, their proud histories are grounded in colonial American socialism.

I have some rather harsh opinions on illegal immigration, but your premise about not providing healthcare coverage to ilegal aliens is somewhat absurd.
We know we have illegal aliens in this country. One has a fruit tree fall on him or her out in an orchard working for pennies for some corporate fat cat. What do you do with the person? Leave him lay there and die or take it to get care. If you take him to get care, then somebody has to pay for those services, correct? You would rather have the hospital take the bite and eat it for providing care? Are you going to bill the illegal immigrant? Good luck trying to collect a few thousands from them?
So I am asking you…who should pay for those services?
I doubt that story you told about the child needing cancer treatments and being denied and the response that he got. Who told him that? A Tea Party member? He probably could not get the insurance for his daughter becuase she had a pre-existing condition…one of the things that the Tea Pot gang was sent against.

Well what would an Abraham Kline country look like if he got his way and left private industry alone.
First, corporations rarely do the right thing especially if their bottom line is affected. We just saw Toyota getting into trouble because they knew, from at least 2003, that they had problems with their cars. Without government regulations and the NHTSA Toyota wouldn’t be having a recall now. Most car manufactures have had defects that they were forced to issue a recall. Again, without government regulations we still might have exploding Pintos, fiery Chevy trucks and Dodge vans that doors opened when hit and people were ejected. We also saw a peanut butter maker last year who knew their product was contaminated with salmonella and choose not to pull their product until the FDA made them recall it. The company president said he was under pressure to keep the profits up. Without the FDA the drug manufactures could put out drugs without any testing. Probably in an Abraham Kline world there would be tort reform so if you got sick or died from these untested drugs, well too bad. We also had numerous tainted food recalls thanks to the FDA. Just think, Chi-Chi’s might still be in business because there wouldn’t have been anyone held responsible.
No OHSA and workplace’s wouldn’t be safe because there would be no regulation. If you got hurt, too bad, you’re on your own, no worker’s compensation either. No government regulations, you better get ready to start working more hours and more days and for whatever the company chose to pay you, because there would be no minimum wage law. If you have kids Abraham, well no child labor laws so they’ll have to go to work. Companies can pollute the air, water and land because there are no regulations, in your world. Coal producers could strip the land and leave it without reclaiming it. China could send all their contaminated goods into the country without retributions. Without the NRC nuclear power plants could operate without any of those pesky regulations and could get rid of the waste anywhere they want, except where the CEO’s live. We just saw what happens when banks and Wall Street aren’t regulated. Greed takes over and they almost bankrupted the country. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Is that the country you really want to live in? I doubt it.
