West Kittanning residents Gene Harmon and Bertie McKinley were recently voted as the 2009 Republicans of the Year by the Armstrong County Republican Committee. "I feel overwhelmed," said McKinley. "I never thought I would get this." Harmon had similar feelings about the award. "I was very happy to receive this. I'm still walking on a cloud," he said. "I never expected it, but I've been here for about 35 years. Every year we help out with all the county candidates and everyone by putting petitions out and things like that." Harmon and McKinley were both given framed certificates in order to commemorate their achievement.
