OBIT: Walter Paul Gallagher
Walter Paul Gallagher, age 83, of Dayton, PA, died, Monday, February 1, 2010 at Mulberry Square Care Center, Punxsutawney.
He was born February 1, 1927, in Dayton, PA, to Elmer and Bertha (McDivitt) Gallagher.
Mr. Gallagher was a lifetime resident of the Dayton area and was a member of the Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church. He was a self-employed farmer for 39 years, and for 10 years he worked for Doverspike Coal Company. Walter enjoyed farming, hunting, and gardening. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Rankin) Gallagher who he married June 7, 1952; three sons, Richard Gallagher of Kittanning, Ron Gallagher of Dayton, and Derek Gallagher and wife Brenda of Fort Drum, NY; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Wagner and husband Chad, Chris Gallagher, Andy Gallagher, Casey Gallagher, Brock Gallagher, Shannon Gallagher, Kylie Gallagher, and Liam Gallagher; and a sister-in-law, Stella Harvey of Erie, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Sophie Gallagher; two brothers, Harold and Lisle Gallagher; and three sisters, Marie Gallagher, Catherine Willison, and Alberta Cochran.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home, 125 E. Main Street, Dayton, PA.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010, in the Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church at 11 AM with Rev. Laurie Milligan officiating.
Interment will follow at Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Cemetery, Wayne Twp., Armstrong Co., PA.
Memorial contributions may be given to Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church, 2540 Dayton Smicksburg Road, Dayton, PA 16222.
