PUZ: Let’s Talk Pittsburgh Sports

It has been a good week to be a Pittsburgh fan. Pittsburgh, for the first time, has been named the “Best Sports City” out of 399 cities in the US and Canada. They beat out last year’s champions, Boston, which dropped to third place behind Philadelphia. The main reason Pittsburgh was named number one was because of the Steelers and Penguins winning it all this past season.

The other things factored into this are each city’s number of teams and their regular-season win-lost records, bowl appearances and tournament bids, playoff berths, championships, power ratings, attendance, and how much fans are crazy for their team. Guess which team was the only won to not help Pittsburgh out? The Pirates… Shocking I know.

Its hard not to think that Pittsburgh won’t top the list again here within the next few years with both the Penguins and Steelers having most of their key players signed to long term deals. I’ll even give the Pirates a little credit and say that they are trying to make strides to improve their team for the future(Happy Abe).

The Penguins have looked good, except for Wednesday’s game where they lost 3-0 and had a period(20 minutes) of penalties for the game. The good news about hockey is there are enough games in a season and people expect you to lose a couple games and not to go undefeated. Like I said earlier, the Penguins have their young, very talented players signed for years and should raise at least one more Stanley Cup before their contracts are up.

The Steelers have looked great at times this season, but have also been disappointing at times. Ben has been, in my eyes, the most consistent player so far this season for the Steelers. I think sometimes Ben puts to much pressure on himself to do well, after already being on a team that only went 8-8 after winning one Super Bowl and starting this season at 2-2, the pressure is starting to build. I think the Steelers will win at least ten more games this season and should win this Sunday against a very weak Detroit team.

The bottom line is that Pittsburgh is on top and I think they can stay on top for next year, but the Pirates will need to be at least a 500 team, but that may be asking to much of them.

Don’t for get to watch next week’s rebroadcast of both Kittanning and Ford City football, Saturday, October 17th beginning at 9:00AM and 7:00PM… only on your local family station, Family-Life TV.
